Music Classical

The task of incorporating a vast amount of metadata, diverse information, and visual style associated with classical music into the Apple visual language presents a fascinating design challenge.

My Contribution

As a UI designer, my involvement spanned across the initial concept stage, UI design, and extensive testing phases. During this time, I developed various solutions, and many of my ideas were integrated into the final product that was ultimately shipped.

Unlike regular pop music, classical music is highly structured and contains extensive metadata such as composer, conductor, orchestra, and recording date, which need to be presented in a visually appealing and functional manner. The design must consider the complexities of the classical music genre and provide a seamless user experience.

The design had to meet the needs of a diverse user base, including experts, enthusiasts, and casual listeners, by providing relevant information and functionality to each user group. Therefore, designing for classical music requires a deep understanding of its unique characteristics and a careful consideration of user needs and expectations.

The selection of the appropriate typographic hierarchy and choices played a critical role in presenting the relevant information and metadata at the right time.

The initial builds of the app were dense, and the information was presented in a simple list format without any consideration for accessibility from both a visual and consumption standpoint.

Therefore, it was necessary to re-evaluate the typography to ensure optimal legibility and accessibility while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing design.
